@tlacehualli said,“Really? You think so little of me that you think I’d do that?”

It really is his own fault, sometimes– and no matter what she does to help, SIGMA often finds himself leaning into that sense of security he finds in vulnerability. It’s just easier to shed any form of accountability for his actions  [ OR LACK THEREOF ] when he can claim to be subject to forces outside of his control. It’s so much easier to blame everyone but himself, isn’t it? That’s why he won’t stop doing it– not really. What lesson is there for him to learn? TALON praises him for playing pretend– it streamlined things, even if his inability to take accountability for his own actions only served to frustrate his alleged saviors.

But this is different.

Sombra didn’t have to help him slip out of the facility, didn’t have to do everything in her capability to allow him to get in and out of the compound at his relative leisure without TALON being any the wiser as to what he was getting up to in his spare time. It was more or less a charity of her time and effort, catering to his whimsical need to venture out into the world.

So why is he getting so worked up at her?

Her question throws him off mid-bluster, a momentary look of frustration crossing his features before a secondary, more lasting, flash of realization follows thereafter. It isn’t really the words she uses that make him crumple– it’s the tone she uses and the alarmingly genuine reproachfulness in her eyes.

image

He’s gone too far– it was inconceivably selfish of him to demand so much of her time and effort for such a continuous favor she freely granted him with no identifiable “catch”. She helps him simply because she wants to… and he acts like this? “– I– you didn’t a-answer–” It’s reflexive, cycling through each excuse even though his anxious stuttering prevents any completion of statement. “– It isn’t like th– I did not mean it in that way–” He stammers, now beginning to recoil somewhat as the shame begins to build.

But were there many ways one could interpret “how could you lock me out”?

It wasn’t as if it was some snide remark from his counterpartit is entirely his own phrasing and intention. He, himself, is being hurtful right now– and what, exactly, is there to justify it with? What kind of “friend” would do any of that…?

image

            “– That was cruel of me, wasn’t it…? I– I am sorry.

“… Would you like me to leave you alone, Miss Sombra…? I, ah… I understand if you no longer have any interest in our… a-arrangement… That was uncalled for….

@ovcrwctch said, “Is it weird if I say I found space terrifying?” Lena asked, curling up on her chair across from him with a strained smile. Remembering being strung out across space, at first it had been beautiful but then it was just so, so empty. It freaked her out. [tracer]

“– I would say it would be stranger if you did not.” SIGMA chuckles warmly, reclined flat on his back with gloved fingers neatly laced upon his broad chest; unbound by a static axis, he idly drifts upon the unseen currents, only shifting to keep Lena in his line of sight. Relaxing with Lena was one of the more peaceful rituals he’s since taken up in his introduction to OVERWATCH; she seemed to be one of the few who appeared capable of, effectively, “setting aside”, his former affiliations, in addition to Reinhardt and Doctor Ziegler. She failed to tense up in response to his presence, at times even actively seeking him out to check up on how he’s adjusting, or to discuss relevancies and hypotheses in regards to their anomalies.

This was it– what he had been searching for his entire time spent within TALON.

Reaching so deeply into that red well; seeing stained hands coming back so bloody, yet simultaneously so empty.

The astrophysicist smiles at her sweetly, one of his wide hands lifting to lazily push himself off of the wall before his body has the chance to properly collide with it. “Would it surprise you if I were to inform you that it does, to some degree, frighten me as well? Can any one finite creature truly claim to understand infinity well enough to not find discomfort with it?” He can’t help but chuckle again– what a silly question! “It would be a little naive to assume otherwise, wouldn’t it…? The UNIVERSE is a cold, unfeeling entity– we are no more significant to it than the significance we would personally find in subatomic scales. It isn’t even really a concrete ‘thing'– it simply…. Is. Does that make sense…?” Although, oftentimes he, too, struggled with that conceptualization– what do these powers truly mean if he, himself, is that insignificant in the grand scheme of things…? It never makes any sense.

“Space is so, so terribly lonely– when I gaze up at the sky, I can only think of the vast distances that appear so small to the untrained eye. Do you have any idea how far even just the moon is?” Another laugh, but this time it’s strained, stiff. “– Very far. Far enough to wonder whether or not I could even return to the Earth once the journey is made. I wonder if even SIEBREN realizes just how significant the distance truly is…

“– Either way, considering what you’ve experienced, I would not know what to think if you were to tell me otherwise. Even SIEBREN’S afraid of it, to an extent– but only just enough to take precaution rather than outright avoidance.
